We recommend the following devices to store Game Capture HD recorded files.(1) HDD
(2) USB Flash Drive
NTFS-formatted hard drive is highly recommended for stable recording performance. Before using a USB flash drive, please make sure it’s formatted in NTFS. The following flash drives are recommended.
we will keep this list update.
Game capture HD f/w after V1.6.4 will have speed test function, if your flash drive file system is FAT, basically Game Capture HD will show warning message and recommend to change to NTFS to get better recording performance. You can test your flash drive (with NTFS file system) under Game Capture HD “Menu/Disk management/storage destination” to make sure your recording will be perform correctly. If it still show warning message, it means your flash drive’s writing performance is not qualified for HD recording, please use Hard disk or another flash drive to try again (NTFS is recommended file system.).
Some of the USB 3.0 external hard drives require higher Instantaneous Current than expected. If your hard drive doesn’t get detected please follow below steps to resolve issue:
The internal HDD reboots repeatedly when C281 remains power-off is derived from setting C281 to "Fast Boot" mode before upgrading the firmware 3.1.4. You can eliminate this situation by changing your setting from the Fast Boot mode to "Factory Default Setting".
It sometimes happens in 1080i resolution when playback the recorded file on C281. However, there is no problem with the captured file. The playback will be smooth when playback on PC media players or uploading to YouTube. Please visit our supporting page regularly for firmware updates. We will continue to provide you with updated firmware to make your experience with Game Capture HD even smoother. Please refer to the lists of recommended PC media players below: We strongly recommend anyone who experiences similar symptoms during playback in 1080i on C281 to use one of the following video players on your PC. Please make sure that you select the “De-interlace” function before playback. ●K-Lite Codec Pack 7.8.0 Full+ Media Player Classic -HC 1.5.3.3752: http://www.codecguide.com/ ●BS.Player 2.58 (Build 1058): http://www.bsplayer.com/ ●VLC Player 1.1.11: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ ●SPlayer 3.7 (Build 2437): http://www.splayer.org/index.en.html ●PotPlayer 1.5 (Build 29917): http://www.potplayer.org/*Please note some media player may not have “De-Interlace” function, so the unsmooth play back may persists. This problem will be fixed automatically after uploading to YouTube since YouTube has automatic filtering mechanism. In order to enjoy more smooth playback 1080i recorded file from C281, please refer to the minimum system requirement: ●PC / Intel Core2 E8400 3.0GHZ ●AMD Phenom II X3 710 ●NB / Intel Core i3 380M @ 2.53GHz , ●AMD A4-3300M APU with Radeon HD Graphics
When you are setting the video output resolutions in your PS3 make sure you select both 1080i and 720p, otherwise if you select only one of them, but the Game doesn’t support the resolution it will automatically set to default (480i). For video output settings of PS3 please refer to User Manual 3.5.1, p.20
This is resulted from component connection problem. The Video/Blue cable is not correctly connected (results green screen), and Video/Red and Audio/Red cables are reversed (get buzzing noise). Please make sure that you make the connections as it is shown in following picture:
Game Capture HD will perform high data input during recording, so please make sure storage device has good performance for recording. The following specifications are recommended for your storage device:- Hard disk is preferred instead of pen drive- Hard disk capacity over 320G (include)- HDD manufactured within 2 years
Please refer to followings for better performance.- Remove storage device from Game capture HD and plug it into PC or NoteBook- Format the storage device by choosing “NTFS” file system If still can not improve, please use “HD Tune” to check the write speed.Minimum write speed lower than 5MB/s is not recommended. Please go to http://www.hdtune.com/ to get further information, to download the free trail version.

UM: User Manual http://www.avermedia.com/avertv/Upload/Download/UM_C281_GameCaptureHD_WW_En_20111125.pdf1. Make sure component input/output is not upside down on C281.The signal input (Gameplay in) is the bottom and signal out (to TV) is on the top side, will not see any video if you make the wrong connections. (UM page 6, 2.4.2 section)
2. Please make sure the connection of TV, C281 and Game play is correct (UM page 7~8, 3.1 section)
if possible, please re-plug component connectors again to make sure there is no connection problem.
Make sure that the colored component cables are connected to the correspondent color ports.3.Make sure that you set Game play resolution under 1080i, re-boot game play again while keep C281 turned on (UM page 19, 3.5.1 section)4.If source is Xbox, please unplug Xbox’s HDMI → plug universal component cable → re-boot, further resolution setting please refer to UM. (page 22, 3.5.2 section)5.If source is PS3, you will need to configure the video and audio output settings of your PS3, please check UM’s detailed steps (page 19~21, section 3.5.1)6.If still can’t work, please connect game play and TV directly (remove C281 temporarily), normally TV should be able to show game screen, if not, please follow User’s manual about Xbox or PS3 video/audio settings to setup Game play until there is game screen, then connect C281 again. (UM page 19, 3.5 section)
Game Capture HD doesn’t support the “directly record to PC application”. Game Capture HD is a standalone capture box that doesn't require installation on PC. With this device you can make your recordings very easily directly from your gaming console devices. The recorded files will be saved to your internal or external hard drives and then you can just move these recorded video to your PC. (C281 records to the Internal 2.5” or External USB Hard Drive).
Converter cables (roughly price under US$ 10) won’t work to convert the signal between C281 Game Capture HD and the connected device. If customer has to convert signal (HDMI, VGA, composite) to component, you need to buy a converter box (by search key word “HDMI to component converter box” in Amazon, price range start from US$30, depends on function.), however, we can’t guarantee that converter boxes will fully adjust to Game Capture HD either.
Therefore we recommend connecting your devices (game console, HDTV) directly to C281 Game Capture HD via the component cables provided in the product package.
Since Game Capture HD OSD mode and Recording Quality supports 1080p@30 fps resolution, but the TV doesn’t support 1080p@30 fps playback display, Game Capture HD will process the signal into 1080i@60 fps that it is supported by the TV. This is normal condition, the file still will be recorded in 1080p@30 fps.
